But Terry, what do you think the Master tuning on that Winter spinet wo=
uld sound like? Not a pretty sight...it IS possible that the SAT coul=
dn't handle the compromises needed between the tenor/bass that the aura=
l tuning come up with.

Well, expiriment will tell, but my guess is that a strict FAC tuning on=
a winter spinet will not pass the PTG exam - especially in the low ten=
or and bass.

Read my post..."good piano" ...but if 3 tuners were to aurally Master T=
une that Winter....hee, hee, hee...the SAT could duplicate it within th=
e test periameters.
Again...you can't pass the PTG test without tuning a 2 octave section a=
urally, which is why we don't have ETDs hanging a shingle out...;-]

Always? NO WAY! On a good piano? Probably. On a large, well-scaled pian=
o? Sure.

If you can tune a Winter spinet with an FAC tuning and pass the tuning =
exam, then the tuning exam tolerances need to be tightened!

I would find it hard to believe that a FAC tuning on a good piano would=
n't pass the PTG test with flying colors...but I will check with some t=
uning examiners...I'm sure we have some on the List...am I as preposter=
ous as Joe says?

David,
Where, pray tell, did you glean that Preposterous Idea! Not even! Check=
with Tuning Examiners, before you make such a wild claim! Please?<G>
