Accurate cutting of cloth. Knife vs. Rotary

Now that's what I call interesting, Alan. I'm putting my reply on the List:
In "principle" the "rotary" cutter should be kinder than the knife, there
being a continuous "guillotine" action rather than a "dragging" action as in
the knife. Any comments out there on the List?

A sharp eye and a very sharp knife. There's cutting edge technology for you!

Long time ago at college we spent the first week in the workshops just 
learning to sharpen blades. I've never found the rotary cutters sharp enough

even when new; much prefer a knife.
