credit cards

Dave,

I've been taking VISA/MC payments since '96 and have gotten enough
business on plastic to make it worthwhile. It helps to have a notice on
your invoice/receipt that you take credit cards. Sometimes people like
to pay that way to get the frequent flier miles, or sometimes it makes
the difference between getting the job or not. I've taken credit card
numbers over the phone when the owner is out of town - easier than
writing and mailing a check.

The system I use doesn't require rental or ownership of a terminal
<http://www.cellcharge.com/>. I can punch the numbers into my phone
(cell or land line) and I just need the imprinter (Addressograph
Bartizan portable 990)
<http://www.imprinters.com/main/products/details.html?ddmProduct_Details=990>
and credit card slips. The imprinter is compact - about 4-1/2" square by
about 2" thick.
