wire size

I'm new at this game Avery so please tell me if I'm wrong.  I just measured
the scrap string I took off the piano at .041.  Am I correct that this would
be a size 18?

 

It's a giant old piano.

Wow. That seems awfully big for middle C. You sure it wasn't a lower note?
