Hi Ron,
                 You are right on the money re the double loops.  Several 
side benefits. Not least is being able to predict the length of bare wire 
to the start of the winding, making the start of the windings neat on bi 
cords and tri cords.  The double loop also reduces necking of the core 
wire.  We have experimented with both methods and the double loop wins 
hands down.
