Modern key tops

David,

I guess I'm missing something here but why would glue being removed 
from the "sides" of the key affect the "top" of the key?? Even if 
that is actually the cause, why couldn't you just remove the key and 
polish it? Much easier and quicker than trying to replace a key top. 
And probably not necessary, anyway. JMO.
