Refelting hammers...clamp type clothes pins idea

Take it one step further:
First glue a strip of felt to reshape the hammer, then stretch a strip of leather to add some compression and insurance.
You will still need to harden the felt and leather with lacquer, shellac, keytop in acetone, or superglue thinned with acetone.
