finishing tool handles

A lot of what you use depends on the sort of wood your are using.  Oil based
finishes have a strong tendency NOT to stick, or dry for that matter, on
oily woods such as ebony or a lot of the rosewoods that are out there.
Solvent based ( such as lacquer or shellac ) do not have that problem.

Hmmmm,

Two for lacquer......

My last handle with lacquer started rubbing off.  Admittedly, I used the
handle fairly soon after application, and perhaps chose the wrong product.
I had some instant drying spray-lac on hand.  Ended up pulling all the
finish off and am starting again.  Anyone use Varnish?
