When you say forward edge, do you mean towards the player or towards the
tail?

This  is totally incorrect!  The forward  edge  of the wood moulding of the
"knuckle" should be in line with the CENTER of the jack! Also, a  blow
distance of  1 3/4"  is advised.  A 3/8" dip is  good  place  to  start,
but  after-touch  will  dictate  where it should  be.  Just so's  ya  know.
