List,

I wear progressive focus lenses (just got a new pair Friday).  Over 
the years, I've also had lined and never had any problem switching 
back and forth.  Lucky, I guess.

For a number of years, until the prescription got too out of date, I 
had what they call "Double D" lenses which I used for mostly for 
regulation.  They have a D shaped bifocal area below _and_ above 
centerline.  I REALLY loved them when I was doing grand dampers. As I 
understand, plumbers and electricians use them a lot because of a lot 
of overhead, but close, work.

I had them in a HARD clamshell case in my regulation toolkit.
