Bill-

There are many ways to do this; wood patches, plugs, epoxy.  Whichever you use, note that if you redrill for a bridge pin you can cheat a little: drill nearly vertical and move the pin over .5mm, and use an extra long pin.  This will get the pin installed with a lot more wood to support it.
