Grin...

That is exactly the point. We have amazing amounts of reallllly
interesting stuff and ideas to throw around. Its great fun really. But
few of us at best are capable and have the resources to turn any of our
speculations into fact. For my part... I dont see the need to try
really. This is a great sounding board for ideas... and there are those
out there who ARE in possession of the right resources for figuring
things out... and heck... even THEY disagree on much of it. As far as
the false beat thing... no need to be sorry... it shouldnt be a problem
for anyone IMHO.

Cheers
MicR.... RicM... or whatever it is y'all have decided to call me for the

    David & MicS,

When my mechanical engineer client first brought this up, I found
myself answering him based on my experiences and the hearsay that
abounds in the piano technician world. Thanks to Ron, Ed, MicS :-)
and your responses, it confirmed that my theories are correct, but
also that we often don't have controlled laboratory studies to prove
    our educated theories.

p.s. sorry to bring up the false beat thing again...heh heh.
