Circular Saw help

Avery,

A couple of major differences in these saws:

1. The model 11585 (directly from Sears)is more powerful.

2. The model 11585 is a RIGHT hand (versus a LEFT hand) saw. If he's right-handed, this puts the blade on the side of the saw closest to him, making it (IMO) easier to use. But, just so you know, the LEFT hand saw (like the one from TylerTool) has been the industry standard in rough carpentry for years; the RIGHT hand models are relatively new developments.

I'm not a big fan of laser guides because they're still really only "approximate". The best way to use a circular saw, particularly for a beginner, is together with a Swanson Square which, when held on the board to the left of the cut line, is the perfect guide allowing no side play. With a laser guide, you can still go "off line", it's just that you'll immediately know how FAR off.

Anyway, good luck - you're a good uncle, dude.
