This thing just gets more interesting with every screw removed. Apparently, the rebuilder found some loose pins in the low tenor, even with the 3/0 pins. So he drilled down into the block and drove tuning pin bushings in to tighten up those pins. You can see a couple in the foreground, and another further up toward the treble. That's a twisted off screw there to the right, which he left. That black stuff on the edge of the block is the one spot that actually touched the plate flange. No attempt was made to fit the block to the flange, but I don't find that surprising somehow. Next is a photo of the plate and agraffe finish after pulling the pins. That stuff just came off in chunks when touched. Last is how it was when I started, with submerged screw heads and mud flat fractures all over. Sifting through the flakes after tear down, the thinnest flake I found was 0.75mm thick, and a lot of them were close to 2mm. So if anyone out there recognizes this stuff and knows who might have done it, please try to convince him to defect, or at least to pursue a different career - like Wal Mart greeter. Argh!
