In the treble it's just an inconvenience, but in the basss section standard parts may not even fit. The Brooks/Abel shanks for Knabe are the best fit, width-wise, although other suppliers' parts can be narrowed on the router table, table saw, or band saw with a suitable jig. DAMHIK. Mike
