How to best rid "crunchyskweeks" from trapwork , pleeeeeeeze ??????

Noisiest, worst case I've seen; 1920's Sohmer "Cupid"
grand, probably lubricated with all sorts of stuff,
over the aeons.  Also, multifarious bits of leather
stuck here and there, to replace old worn stuff. 

     Where to start, and  what to do ??? ( Please! )
