<Some of this is initial compaction of wood in a new piano, but I expect that if we took the time to do the settling routine throughout with the first tuning, they would stabilize more quickly. The manufacturer wouldn't benefit from quick stabilization, so they aren't interested in paying for it, nor is the dealer for the same reason. The customer would benefit, but they will want to know why it's their expense on a new piano, and why it wasn't already done at the manufacturing or sales level. > Amen Ron. I've stopped this discussion with a local dealership. They're not willing and I'm all talked out about it. As far as stabilizing a broken wire, I've never been successful with the 1st shot. I always state that I am willing to return _once_ to re-tune the string. I would say 80% of them call within 4 months, and not all of them are right around the corner. A hazard of the trade - can't charge enough - can't do enough to get it stable the 1st time. -Phil Bondi(Fl)
