During this time in England, Broadwood were tuning to C540. So perhaps
collard & collard were also a made for a higher pitch.

Hi David.

The Collard and Collard pianos that I ran across had all a very specific and
strange sound, as if all the strings had not enough tension on them (at A4 =
440 Hz). This made me think that they were designed for a higher pitch,
while I'm not sure of that. Yet, I can't believe that that sound was
intended, while maybe yes. So maybe one problem in restoring this
instrument would be to decide to rescale it, if definitely intended to play
at 440, and then enjoy the flames of purists.
Money, for sure, lies in another box. But marveling for a subtle outdated
culture and all the thrill that goes with it, yes, maybe in that box.
May the fun be with you.

Best regards.

Stéphane Collin.

Can anyone tell me anything about the rebuildability of a mid 19th century
Collard and Collard Grand. I've not seen the piano yet but wonder what kind
of special problems I might encounter.
