Soundboard question

Why would forcing a controlled 25% compression set (even if it were
possible) reduce the tendency for the board to expand and contract with
humidity changes? That's not what compression set is.

I do not want a board with a lower amount of compression. I want a
board that does not (can not in this case) react to changes in RH as
much as a fresh panel does.

Terry, I can understand that a panel with much compression set might be
more prone to cracking in to handling, but cracks in a ribbed panel are
due to cross grain strains against the restraining force of the ribs as
the panel reacts to RH changes. Lower reactiveness to RH would then
imply lower propensity towards either compression ridges or tension
cracks and higher stablity. All other kinds of crack causing stresses
are countered nicely already by the ribbing. Or what ?

Cheers
