For "Sharpie" type markers, 95% ethanol will work. DON'T use denatured alcohol--get it from the liquor store. Everclear, McCormick's Grain Neutral Spirts, "Diesel Fuel". Denatured is a gamble unless you know 'how' it was denatured.
