In Phoenix, apparently, they're worth a lot more than that: http://phoenix.craigslist.org/msg/546237869.html ($30-50K? Yow!) Model names/numbers are common -- but usually when a company tags a product with a word or phrase, there's some wider reason for it. Chickering made different models within the "Quarter Grand" group, so my guess is that "quarter" had a commonly understood meaning in the early 20th century. My apologies for duplicating Paul's question on this. When I'm reading on the web, I can't automagically see who-all is on the recipient list. Oh, and remember my question about dampness in shop floors? Well, it turns out that the previous owner was minimiazing a bit when he told me about it. There's a small (but still manageable) flood coming through the foundation as the snow and ice melt. Aaargh. Thank goodness for shop vacs!
