The CC has a different serial number sequence.  We have 1795 here and it
was built in 1983 (or so).  Your 4-digit BB might have been back that
far into the 1800s.  Remember though Mason  & Hamlin only started making
pianos in 1885.

Just a thought,

 

I've seen 2 CCs and a BB that had 4 digit numbers and were NOT that old,
meaning at times Mason had C&A numbering similar to what Steinway and
others do today.

 

Does 1886 make sense to you Gerald?
