pay the complete ammount cash and take the action with you when you leave!!

By the way: the last piano I got from a private household was offered me for free. I was sceptical on the phone: old upright from 1925 and all they wanted was to have the piano away very quick because that household had to be closed within 2 weeks, no further information available. What I found was this: a beautyful upright made by Schmitt, Hagen. Tuned on 440 Hz, obviously new hammers and all felts and leathers in the action were replaced some years ago, snow white ivory keys. It turned out the the owner, an old lady that went to a nursing home, was the very first owner of that piano. She got it 1925 for her 7th birthday. Wow, what a deal. That piano saw the world economic crisis, survived world war II and Adolf Hitler, but looked like new! Still in the flat, I called the mover with my cell phone and scheduled the transport for the next day. Everybody was happy :-)

List!
Recently,I had received calls from 2 younger technicians, who are trying to supplement their tuning business with selling and renting inexpancive, entry level pianos..
Both of them had some negative experience when they bought piano from a private party for agreeable price, left $100 depozit and went to the bank or ATM machine to get the rest of the money By the time they came to pay for piano, the seller had sold it to somebody else for a few $$ more..Depozit was returned to them on the spot, legal recource was out of the question…What could be done to ‘seal the deal” and avoid this cituation???? Hopefully, more experienced Listers can share their wisdom… Thanx in advance Isaac.
