Wood Specie Insert for Capstan

Terry,
I can send you 1/4" plugs cut from old upright keys.
or plug the holes again and inlay a thin hardwood top plate.
I'd be leary about routing out too large a section.

I prefer to turn the capstans in rather than distress
the wood fibers with pressing them. I mount the capstan
in a hand chuck and spin the key until it's deep enough.
This makes for a nice feel to the turn when you drill an
appropriate size hole.
