Sounds like typical oversight by Kimball (and many other manufacturers 
from that era).  You might try that other suggestion of slightly bending 
the spoon right or left, although im not sure of long term stress on one 
side of the damper lever flange, but then again,  It might not live long 
enough to have the problem! ;>)  Good luck!

Damper Spoons Touch Lifter Rod






This is a c1980 Kimball. I doubt the spoons have been pulled up. Perhaps a 
dozen are actually touching the damper lifter rod. I think it was just 
placed too close to the spoons at the factory. I've never seen this 
problem before, either. I've never tried driving the rod brockets in top 
raise it, but I assume they are a press fit.
