Hey guys, the big OT is in the subject. Presumably we're not offending anyone. I sure would like to be a fly on the wall for this.......

  Hey Paul,

You may e-mail me privately if you wish, as this is not a topic for this list. With that said, I want to thank you again for your opinion, as we are both entitled to it.

    Matthew,
Are you able to present evidence to support your hypothesis of rising oil prices resulting from lowered oil consumption, or to dispute my observations? My statements reflect my observations of the obvious, not just opinion.

        Matthew,

I'm hardly an economist, but I think the way it would actually work is that the cost of ELECTRICITY would go up, if anything. Look at the seasonal (driving/flying vacation/holiday time) gas price increases.

Costs (prices, actually) go UP when the producer's ability to produce product exceeds demand. Since the oil companies are having a harder and harder time finding dead dinosaurs to exploit, and since they don't want to "invest" their windfall profits in building more refineries, we have rising prices at the pump. The reason we're using so much is that we WASTE a lot. A LOT. (I tried to detail a few simple examples in a previous post on this thread.)

When/if a significant transition to electrically-powered cars comes about, gee, what will big oil do? Those poor investors (including some Supreme Court Justices) won't be able to share their windfall profits. They'll have to start building, hmmm, oil-fired electricity generating plants.

Because . . . . the higher prices go, the more go to electric, causing the prices to go up even more!

How so? Seems to me electric vehicles would reduce the demand for gasoline and thus help to lower fuel prices. How would it work otherwise?

I think we're getting off topic, so I changed the subject line to reflect it.

To the best of my knowledge, supply and demand. Are you suggesting electric cars are driving up gasoline prices?

Yeah, and why do we think the gas prices are so high??? Sheesh!

Check out teslamotors.com. All electric car....a little pricey now, but so were hand held calculators when they came out.
