When I worked at a Radio Shack store, we always used electrical tape to hold
the batteries together.  If you did that, then used Velcro, you could have a
removable battery pack.  As it looks now, those dudes ain't coming out.

I'm kind of a function over form fella too, Terry.  If you wanted to dress
it up just a bit, though, you could hit it with some black spray paint.
 Wouldn't it be fun to see if you could also implement some tuning pins as
the PDA holder?
But overall, I think you did great!
