These are 5/8" solid steel rod, drilled in through the rail 
from the action cavity, grooved on the ends with a grinder, 
and epoxied in. 3/4" might be even better. I haven't tried 
this in a non-rebuilding situation, but it ought to do 
something similar to the retrofit brace Pianotek sells. If 
anyone tries this as a retrofit, I'd like a report please.
