Thanks to all who responded.    

Returning to client today, so no time to buy an impact screwdriver, but I did try heating the screw with no results.  I also tried a hard blow to the screw, to "break the bond" with no results either.

Looking at it further, I think the screw is brass in an aluminum housing.  

I'm going to call Seijung (spelling?) who I believe manufactured the piano, according to Larry Fine's book, and see if ordering the whole bottom assembly of the pedal is possible.

But thanks again for all the advice.  This is the "Go To" place for info, especially when time is short!  I'll post an update when/if I am able to solve this.
