Hi,

No, covering an upright may improve the DC system response so long as the
lights can be seen. In some climates heat may be a problem, but I've never
found it to be so where I live. If it is, remove the kick board as well as
the music desk and the ambient room temperature will prevail very quickly.
I always use a back cover (plastic works well) for uprights as it improves
system response about ten fold.
