The number one rule when removing keys from an upright piano is to number them. Don't count on the numbers stamped into the keys, and don't rely on some arbitrary line crossed over the keys. Just take a few moments and number them, 1 - 88, in your own hand writing. I number mine between the balance rail and capstan. 

Before you put the keys back in the piano,?write number 5, 10, 15, etc, right in front of the balance rail pin. That will help you find where the keys are going to be, because when you put them in a bag to take home, and back to the customer, they will?go out of order.
