Last month I posted a prototype of new guide which I had an idea for last year. http://ptg.org/pipermail/pianotech.php/2009-May/009389.html Last week I had the opportunity to use it on a set of keys and it made the job go quickly. First I set the platen flush with the surface and reamed the balance hole height, the reamer bottomed out on the guide; no need to 'feel' for the depth. Then I lowered the platen for the Yamaha-style, tapered, easing tool to be stopped at the appropriate protrusion beyond the bottom of the key. Again, the job was completed quickly with great accuracy and consistency with no 'intuitive' sense required or mistakes. It received an A+ rating. -- Regards, Jon Page
