That is what dealers have done here in the St. Louis area - they will "rent" space in the, then, Wal-Mart and display and sell out of there. It was still the dealer that was responsible for all warranty and service.

  Hi Wim,

All they did was provide the space. I wasn't high enough in the company structure to know about liabilities or contracts, but I would think they would have. They provided no guarantees on the pianos or service, that was our responsibility.

  Paul

Did Costco get involved in anything to do with the pianos, other than providing the space? Did they have some sort of written policy that exempted them from any liability for the condition of the pianos, or service of any kind?

Sherman Clay has done this for a long time...not with Steinway, but Kohler and Campbells' when I was the warehouse manager learning this wonderful trade nearly 20 years ago!! We had a specific inventory just to ship around the state to various Costco's. Not sure if they still do this. Maybe with Boston and Essex pianos(?)

Hey Seattle....do they still do this??

Wandering through our local Cosco's "aisles of beauty" this morning I was attracted to live piano music coming from the middle of the store. It was eminating from a new Yamaha baby grand (couldn't see the model) with a Disklavier doing the playing. Price was $16,999. What was surprising was the assortment of 6 other various Yamahas. Another baby grand w/o player and several studios and consoles were displayed. They attracted a lot of attention, but I don't know how many actually were sold. No sales person was in evidence. Looks like warehouse clubs are into the piano business big time, at least ours is......
