[pianotech] Damper Pedal

The broken rod hanger that others have mentioned is the likely cause. Since
it is a Kimball, there is another thing that should be checked. In the
newer Kimballs (1970s through 1990s?), the trapwork levers are connected to
the trap springs with bolts and nuts. These nuts get loose, fall off, and
cause problems with the dampers. If it has this arrangement, be sure they
are all tight before making other adjustments. If the nuts from the sustain
or bass sustain pedal have gotten lost, replace them; borrow them from the
soft pedal if you need to. When these get loose, some dampers won't work
well. If you adjust them to the strings, then other dampers will fail.
When you check to see if the pedal has some lost motion, it will look like
it does. The trapwork spring on the bottom board has to be engaged for the
damper rod to go down to its proper rest position.
