[pianotech] Hammer Line Issue

Hi Terry and List,

I think the problem lies with the fact that some of us are so used to looking for 'other' problems as a matter of course in our initial encounter with the piano. I do believe that I was abrupt in my one-liner and should have added that many regulation items need to be looked at before capstans such as blow distance. However, ultimately it 'is' the capstans that are adjusted to even the hammer line in a correctly regulated vertical action. Yes, some of us made assumptions that there was not debris, low keys, etc. causing the problem, but it is impossible to teach an entire course in piano technology via a mailing list.

  BINGO!

Alastair, not a piano tuner, got it! But the several experienced piano techs previously responding didn't?
