You need hitch to start of wrap, and hitch to end of wrap. The thing about duplicating the other string is if the hitch pins are staggered you have to take that into consideration.

As Wim said, if it is something like a scale 11, or a scale 11N you could just give Schaff the string numbers and they can do it for you. If it's really old, they might not have the scale. You can tell the difference between the 11 and 11N by how many wrapped strings are on the treble bridge. I haven't seen an Everett in many years so I can't remember which is which now. Schaff would know.

Subject: [pianotech] bass strings

Hi Dave,
Could I take the right string that's good off and send it to mapes and have them make two strings? Also you mention measurements. Could I use the dial gauge to measure the core, size and wrapping size? I also measure from the hitch pin to where the wrapping begins on the swedged portion? and from the hitch pin to the very top of the string whre the wrapping begins? I want to make sure I have these correct. Visually I have trouble with measuring, so how much wiggle room do I have? thanks
Marshall
