[pianotech] agraffe prep redux

I like the idea of polishing the agraffe holes with Q-tips (and Paul's photos microscopic images certainly made a nice demonstration), but I have not been able to find any Q-tips where the diameter of the shank allowed me to get in deep enough. As a result I still continue to floss with a very high grit abrasive cord. Q-tip suggestions?

We use the same method on these as on enclosed agraffes. Just rotate the Q-tip in the Foredom in line with the string direction. Takes a bit more control, but eminently do-able.

OK so the question is the contact surface on these agraffes appear to be flat and not radiused. While I’ve not looked at them under the microscope then do you radius the contact surface the same way you do the normal agraffes? If so, what method do you use to radius the contact area since you can’t use the same methods of reaming an enclosed surface?

    David:

We do the same thing to them that we do to all agraffes: remove them and shape the contact surface as well as clean and polish the entire agraffe. They are as easily removable as normal agraffes.

So what do you all do to prep those half agraffes that are found on the underside of the strut on Knabes and other similar pianos. Or have you know of a supplier that can replace them?
