[pianotech] Over prepping sales pitch WAS: prepping before sale

I've had dealers tell customers that "our pianos do not need tuning, they
are so good!" Then I get a call asking what's wrong with my piano, it
sounds horrible!

Marcel,

are you joking? For the unlikely case that this is not supposed to be a
joke: does the dealer just tell them or does he really remove the strings
for stretching? I mean, how stupid is this? Actually, string stretching is
an issue in new pianos. But usually strings are stretched in the piano, not
outside. A friend of mine sells Wendl & Lung, Kawai and Seiler. He says that
the Seilers have a string stretching problem as they are not propperly
stretched compared to WL or Kawai. He stretches the strings of all the
Seilers he sells.

On the other hand, there is a dealer here in town that tells his customers
that before delivering the piano he removes all the strings to stretch them
so their new piano won't need tuning until 2 years.
They are the ones I find 1/2 step flat after a year...
Go figure

Marcel
