Oh yes! Good point!

Sometimes it doesn't get in the way, but more often than not it does, so I
tend to just take 'em all out.  If the left pedal has been well-used, the
"celeste" felt has sometimes been cut to ribbons by the strings.

I don't think anyone mentioned about removing the felt strip on wood, soft
pedal assembly that some have.
Tilt the action toward you, and slip the mute rail out of it's slots.
This allows more room for the insertion of the Papp's mute.
