My background was DB2/IMS on mainframe and Sybase and Oracle on Unix. I used to poo-poo MS Access as a toy database, but then I started actually learning how to use it (duh) and discovered some of its vast potential and I really like it. I generally avoid huge, e.g. Microsoft, but in the case of Microsoft, I feel that they have some really great products and some that are, um, really NOT great. MS Access is in the first category, in my opinion, and because of that, the Open Office developers chose to copy its main features for its open source equivalent.
