A matter of consumer protection though you are correct not public safety. Unlike the majority of piano technicians, I am not an independent contractor that can act independently. Toyota has been used as an example concerning the aforementioned. However, inadequate tuning pin torque doesn't pose a public safety issue. Or does it? Anyway, your response has helped me. Thanks again David! Your decision to share or not share the name of the manufacturer is, of course, up to you. But since it appears to be a warranty issue I will be interested to know first if the manufacturer acknowledges that it is a defect (I don't know how you can argue that 15 - 45 lbs of torque isn't) and whether the situation was rectified to your satisfaction. If not, I would like the opportunity to know who is not standing behind their product warranties so that I may make a more informed decision whether or not to direct a potential customer that way. In a technical forum such as this aimed at technicians, not the general buying public, I don't think that should necessarily be categorized as a "politically charged" interest or unreasonable question. I don't know, Toyota comes to mind. Thank you Paul for your response. I am glad all worked-out for you. For the record, if there is anyone out there that thinks for one minute that I am protecting a particular manufacture, then you don't know me. However, I believe there is a gentleman's way of doing business and letting "due process" run its course. I am finding on this forum that there are some more interested in the "politically charged" than numbers. Thanks again Paul for your response. James
