Maybe I'm seeing something different but what might look like a gap between
crates I perceive as a metal band around the crate.

Sy,
I can't say how the boy in the horse (not obviously visible) 
managed to grow up into anything allowable in the house. but 
it looks like Joe is right about there being two crated pianos 
on the wagon.
