the photo is not going to be a problem at all in practice, or even
detectable after installation. The laminations aren't flat, but it's
still uniform. Looks to me like resaw cupping, and planing with the non
flat side down first. I wouldn't sell one like that to another tech,
because of the anticipated discontent at the way it looks, but I
wouldn't worry about it at all for my own use.

Ron,
When I first looked at the top "layer" I thought the same thing: "..just the way it was resawn". Don't think so, unless my "eye" is way off in terms of dimensions. Of course, it could be the angle of the photography, but I don't think so. It just appears to be out of whack to my eye. He did say it was a first try and that it was a mistake. I suspect that that is what I'm seeing. You, however, are still correct. I doubt that the "mistake" would make one damned bit of difference, because there are several layers of what appears to be Delignet. Sufficient to give the tuning pins that really nice feel that is possible with this type of pinblock! <G> Again, just testing to see if my eyesight is still o.k. The last time I resawed Delignet, I came up with a similar "look". I covered it all with really nice Bird's-eye Maple since it was all exposed to the visual aspects.<G>
