No comment on what other people call French-polishing.

to one method.  Another method uses pumice and requires more skill.

The French tradition is slightly different and equally valid.  There 
are no short cuts to a good French-polished finish and anyone who 
hopes to become proficient in a few months in his spare time had 
better not consider beginning.
