No comment on what other people call French-polishing. I have an article at http://pianomaker.co.uk/technical/filling/ dealing with one or two of the early stages in the process according to one method. Another method uses pumice and requires more skill. and a very good description of the whole process as used in English shops before the first world war here: http://pianomaker.co.uk/technical/polishing/ The French tradition is slightly different and equally valid. There are no short cuts to a good French-polished finish and anyone who hopes to become proficient in a few months in his spare time had better not consider beginning. JD
