Richard, I did exactly the same repair on a Steinway 40 from 1940. I found almost an exact replacement castor with brass ferrule from Lee Valley Tools (www.LeeValley.com). Just a small amount of shimming was required. What is hanging me up is the castor and leg ferrule. Is it possible to get one of these anywhere? Otherwise I have to use a bench ferrule and different castors and cups. I have looked at most catalogues and suspect that Steinway would not have these any longer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: <http://ptg.org/pipermail/pianotech.php/attachments/20101126/5237fb08/attachment.htm>
