If you have the same serrations on the wood that is just the original glue, which mean the ivory head has separated cleanly from the wood, probably owing partly to repeated changes in humidity and partly to the stress of being played -- the ivory at the extremes of the keyboard tends not to come loose. In a case where the ivory has come away clean like this, it is often enough just to damp the original glue and let it soften for a few minutes and then clamp up with the heated cauls. JD
