It does not have to show specific copyright information. It is copyrighted material by virtue of its having been written. (See pg. 3 of the attached “Copyright Basics.”) Like it or not, Steinway’s price list is copyrighted and the copyright is owned by its creator or by the entity paying for its creation; in this case Steinway & Sons. To reproduce it or to distribute it without their permission is a violation of copyright law. They publish it (hence they are the copyright owners) and they distribute it as they deem fit. At the least it is a violation of copyright to further distribute it without Steinway’s explicit permission. If the price list is supposed to be confidential, much less copyrighted, and distribution is subject to explicit permission from Steinway, they are certainly quiet about it. Nowhere in the document we got from Steinway does it say anything about the price list being confidential, there is no copywrite information, no date of copyright, and there is no warning that copying or distributing the information is prohibited or in violation of their policy.
