You could file hammers to remove external stuff, (and then you'd probably want to file them all to keep it consistent). Then I might try dusting all the hammers with baking soda and letting is sit a few days. Vacuum off and call it good. I think part of the problem will be that it likely has soaked into the hammers though, and you're not going to be able to remove that. So, back to replacement............. William R.
