Wim, What gap are you referring to? I've never heard of shimming the action frame. Where, or what are you proposing to shim? If you're referring to the trapwork play, it is always better to add a shim (punching) at the pitman rod first, not the back of the pedal. More "effective" lost motion is created (and restored) at the pitman than the pedal rod. Continually adding leather shims in the "well" at the rear of the pedal eventually creates action dampening in the trapwork. This is why Steinway didn't provide a pedal rod adjustment.
