[pianotech] sluggish action

But Tom, the customer may not want to pay it, and the cost might be enormous!

Consider the case I mentioned, of a clapped-out old upright, a hundred
year old birdcage, in which, say, a dozen jack centres are sluggish so the
notes won't repeat.. The tape ends are perished. You know if you pull the
action, a good number of tape ends will give up and the wippens will drop.
Plus, the flanges are brittle, and when you are re-pinning the sluggish
jacks, three of the flanges break. You don't have flanges with you that
will fit.

Why on earth would you subect the owner to the cost of all that work,
however honestly done, when a drop of Protek CLP to each jack centre may
fix the problem in a trice, and to the owner's entire satisfaction?

Best regards,

David.

PS, if there was a cheaper, faster, easier way of carrying out a pitch
raise, wouldn't you do it?
> Yes, you would have to pass the cost on to the customer. And what is
wrong with that if you do the work, and do it honestly?
